This one was a long time coming.
Winless in their past six meetings, Sequim’s Wolves finally found a way to defeat their rivals from Belfair. The Wolves battled to a straight-set win against rival North Mason on Sept. 10, topping the defending Olympic League champions 27-25, 25-23 and 25-22.
"The girls were like, ‘About time!’ We were just a little more steady,’ Sequim coach Jennie Webber Heilman said.
"They (North Mason) graduated eight or nine seniors; they basically have a brand new team," Webber Heilman said.
Sequim earned a triple win Thursday night, winning the varsity, junior varsity and C-team matches, each in straight sets.
Sequim hadn’t beaten North Mason since September 2004.
Sequim added a five-set nonleague win at Interlake, outlasting the Saints 13-25, 25-16, 11-25, 25-23 and 15-12.
Sequim hosts Klahowya on Sept. 17 and Kingston on Sept. 22.
