Sequim opens season with wins

Boys Tennis

Not a bad way to start the season.

The Wolves’ top two singles players survived tough matches while their doubles duos didn’t lose a set in topping Klahowya 7-0 on Sept. 12.

Sequim’s Reed Gunstone outlasted Jeff Jaeckel in a first set, 8-6 tiebreaker and took the second set 6-4, while teammate Etorre Scudo rebounded from a first set tiebreaker loss to down Bill Monroe 6-7 (7-3), 6-2 and 6-3. Sequim’s No. 3 singles player Waylon Lam topped Brandon Wheeler 6-1 and 6-0.

Mallory Maloney and David Richards combined to stop Klahowya’s Eric Eley and Mark Garlit in straight sets (6-2, 6-1) while Sequim’s Michael Lee and Greg Robinson had no problem with Eagle challengers Phil Alessi and Sasha Morozov (6-1, 6-0). Other Sequim doubles winners were Robbie Blenk/Alex Lamb in No. 3 doubles and Andrew Gunstone and Alex Skinner in No. 4 doubles.

How "sweep" it is.

Reed Gunstone topped Bulldog Andy Bartell 6-0 and 6-1 while Maloney blanked Conor Daley. Lam, the Wolves’ freshman, won his first varsity match, topping Bulldog Ryan Jones in straight sets.

Sequim’s doubles winners included Blenk/Lamb in No. 2 doubles, Ethan Gill/Etorre Scudo in No. 3 doubles and Byron Boots/Andrew Gunstone in No. 4 doubles.
