Call it the result of the rainshadow effect.
With weather making fields in Port Angeles too wet to play, Sequim is hosting a four-team senior softball exhibition at Carrie Blake Park starting at 10:30 a.m. today, Sept. 3.
Teams set to play include Sequim, Port Townsend, Port Angeles and Bremerton.
The tourney originally was scheduled for Aug. 27 but rain pushed it back a week and to Sequim’s drier, playable fields at Carrie Blake.
The original plan, said Leonard Gann, Sequim’s senior softball club steering committee chairman, was for each of the teams to host a mini-tourney, and Sequim still is scheduled to host on Sept. 10. If that date holds up, all four teams will play at Carrie Blake on the 10th, also starting at 10:30 a.m.
Sequim’s softball club had 82 members as of last year; team members from Port Angeles and Port Townsend formed their own respective clubs.
"Together with Bremerton, we have created the skeleton of what hopefully will become a full fledged league next year," said Durward Hill, one of Sequim’s founding members.
