When they weren’t being rained on or rained out, Sequim players made the best of it at the Saundra Kent Memorial Tennis Tournament’s first weekend.
Four Sequim players took top division honors and another five runner-up finishes.
Sequim spouses Doug and Allison Hastings made it a clean sweep in the top men’s and women’s singles divisions. Doug topped Sequim High grad Joseph Puntenney 6-1, 6-0 in the final for the men’s 4.5 singles title while wife Allison topped another Sequim native, Tricia Stratton, 4-1 and 4-0 in the women’s 4.0 final.
Other Sequim winners included Andrew Gunstone (men’s 3.0 division) and Stu Sherman (men’s 50-plus bracket) both in round robin play.
Puntenney earned second place in both men’s 4.0 and 4.5 divisions while Sequim’s Stacy Hanson was second in the women’s 3.5 bracket. Sherman was also runner-up in the men’s 3.5 singles division.
Set at Port Angeles’ Erickson Park, the 25th Saundra Kent Memorial Tennis Tournament continues next week with men’s women’s and mixed doubles action.
