Girls basketball goes 0-2 last week
The Sequim girls basketball team (1-2 in the Olympic League, 1-3 overall) struggled from the floor last week in two home losses.
They made just 25 percent of their shots in a 66-25 loss to Bainbridge on Friday, Dec. 13.
“We didn’t do much on offense and on defense tonight they took it to us,” said Sequim coach Joclin Julmist. “They played very well and shot the ball extremely well.
Gracie Chartraw had six points and four steals. Hailey Wagner had 12 rebounds to go with four points.
On Dec. 10, Sequim connected on just 10-of-55 (18 percent) shots from the floor and 10-of-20 free throw attempts against the early season surprise Bulldogs in a 38-34 loss for the Wolves.
“We couldn’t buy a basket. It was a tough shooting night,” Julmist said.
Bobbi Mixon led Sequim with 10 points and seven rebounds. Libby Turella added nine points
The Wolves were set to host Olympic (0-2, 0-4) at 7 p.m. Tuesday after press deadline. They’ll travel to Foss on Saturday before taking a winter break and resuming play on Dec. 30 against an Australian International team.
Wrestlers hit the mats in White River Classic
Multiple Wolves medaled on Dec. 7 at the White River Classic.
Jayms Vilona won the 157 pound bracket with a series of massive wins (17-2, 21-5, 13-3, and 17-2), with three of those wins being technical falls.
Brandon Bair (106 pounds) went 3-1 to take third with a 7-3 decision in the medal round.
The Wolves’ James Mason took fourth at 165 pounds while both Ryan Spelker (132) and Dylan Bowen (215) earned sixth place finishes. Bowen made three straight pins in subsequent matches, while Spelker made one pin during his run.
Johnny Vilona at 138 pounds went 2-2, and Riley Downs (150) and Max Silvilli (285) each earned a win.
Results from matches on Dec. 14 in Port Townsend were not available by press time. The Wolves are set to wrestle again on Dec. 28 at the North Mason Winter Classic.
Bowlers win baker games over Bremerton
Sequim’s bowling team got a win over Bremerton on Dec. 9 at Laurel Lanes in Port Angeles.
Coach Randy Perry said the Knights got stuck traveling before the Hood Canal Bridge so the teams bowled one regular game and four baker games.
Sequim lost 544-537 in the regular game, but won three out of four baker games 134-92 (W), 118-95 (L), 114-111 (W) and 158-100 (W), with a total of 1,038-965. Skylar Krzyworz had the high game for Sequim with 132 pins.
Results were unavailable by press time for matches against Bremerton on Dec. 10, North Mason on Dec. 12, and Port Angeles on Dec. 16. They’ll bowl in Klahowya on Dec. 19 before going on winter break and returning to play in Olympic on Jan. 7.
