The rolling hills and copious bunkers at White Horse Golf Course do not seem to bother Kingston’s golfers.

The same cannot be said for Sequim’s boys, who dropped a 99-86 decision to the Buccaneers on April 14 in a battle of two top Olympic League 2A teams.

"It’s just a tough golf course," Sequim coach Vic Quinet said. "Tough greens. (They) wouldn’t hold."

Sequim with a round of 84 for 24 Stableford points, backed by Ezra Perkins’ round of 89 and Josh Francis at 89. Steve Loerlein shot a 94 while Jake Dethlefsen and Casey Torres each shot rounds of 96.

Sequim’s boys to 3-1 in league and 5-1 overall.

"Plenty of season left," Quinet said.

Sequim’s girls managed to work the course well in their match-up with the Bucs, topping Kingston 90-79.

Zoei Zbaraschuk continued her medalist streak with a nine-hole round of 42 for 30 Stableford points followed by Lisa Doan (54, 18 points), Ashley Morton (55, 17), Kim Duce (57, 15) and Hailey Estes (62, 10).

"Toughest golf course we’ll see all year," Sequim girls’ coach Garrett Smithson said, noting that he considered their 90 points at White Horse better than their 108-point effort a week previous in Sequim.

"They didn’t put it into their minds (that) it was a tough course," he said,

noting that Morton’s effort was two shots better than last week’s on the considerably more difficult course.

Sequim’s girls improved to 4-0 in Olympic League play and overall.

Sequim’s girls were slated to be at the Burlington-Edison Invite on April 19 while both teams were scheduled to host Port Townsend and Oak Harbor on April 20 – results of both matches were unavailable at press time.

Smithson said the Burlington-Edison tourney is key for his team.

"That (tourney) has the best 2A girls teams in the state; we’ll try to get a feel for where we’re at," he said.

The Wolves’ boys are at the Port Ludlow Invitational on April 27. Both squads are at North Mason on April 29.
