Sequim’s Little Comes Up Big at Tournament

Garrett Little, 9, of Sequim, took second place in his first USTA-sanctioned 10-and-under-tennis match at the Eastside Tennis Club tournament in Kirkland, Aug. 14-16.

Garrett Little, 9, of Sequim, took second place in his first USTA-sanctioned 10-and-under-tennis match at the Eastside Tennis Club tournament in Kirkland, Aug. 14-16.

At the Eastside TC August Rookies Singles and Doubles Tournament, Little went 2-1 in the round robin-format tourney.

He topped Paul Yevtushenko in three sets (3-4, 4-2, 1-0) and Jacob Blanchfield in three sets (4-1; 2-4; 1-0(2)), losing only to division champ Kevin Vemulapalli in two sets (4-1, 4-3).

Little’s matches were played on sized-down, 60-foot courts and using modified, pressure-less orange tennis balls.
