One thing is for sure, the Wolves soccer squad is bound for the playoffs.

The Wolves kept pace with the North Kitsap Vikings on May 6 at home but ultimately fell to the Olympic League co-champions.

With the loss, Sequim takes fourth place in the league at 9-6 and 29 points. They play at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 11, at Foster High School against the Franklin-Pierce Cardinals (12-3 overall, 36 points, first in the South Puget Sound League).

On Monday, the Vikings capitalized early off some tough calls in the 4-1 win.  Brady Sparrow scored first for the Vikings 15 minutes in and Henry Baldwin again three minutes later. Sparrow scored again 23 minutes in, making it 3-0 at the end of the first half.

Wolves coach Dave Brasher said the first two goals were “flukey” in that the first goal rolled under goalkeeper Austin Wagner and the second was questionable with players being offsides.

Brasher said he was proud of how his team played in the second half holding the Vikings to one more goal (Baldwin’s second goal in the 53rd minute) before Thomas Winfield scored for the Wolves (60 minutes, assist Tyler Ebert).

At the beginning of the season, Brasher said he wasn’t quite sure how well the team would do.

“I’m pleasantly surprised with how we did,” he said.

From his scouting of Franklin-Pierce, Brasher said the Cardinals are beatable. If

Sequim loses, though, the team will be out of the playoffs.

North Kitsap plays Kingston, today, May 8, for the No. 1 seed going into the playoffs.
