Golf trio birdies

last 7 holes in win

The three-man team of Jim Brooks, John Haggar and Paul Reed sank birdies on their last seven holes to win SkyRidge Golf Course’s three-person scramble Jan. 17.

The team’s round of 61 won the event by four shots; Richard Fisher, Jeff Pedersen and Mark Willis finished second with a score of 65.

Brian Cays, Jeff Cays and Neil Cays won the net division in a playoff; Gene Potter, Toby Weidenheimer and Pete Young took second.

‘HotSpot’ hoops comes to Port Angeles

The Port Angeles Recreation Department hosts the 2009 HotSpot Basketball Competition at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 25, at the Vern Burton Gymnasium, 308 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.

The event is a basketball skills competition that demands participants shooting from five different spots on the basketball court for three, one-minute periods.

The event is open to boys and girls of ages 7-14 (as of March 31).

The HotSpot competition is free. Winners advance to the state competition set for March 22 in Lakewood.

The gym is open by noon. Registration forms can be completed the day of the competition. Participants need to bring a copy of their birth certificate.

P.A. pool home

to fundraiser

The "Save the P.A. Pool Fundraiser" is scheduled for 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, at the William Shore Memorial Swimming Pool, 225 E. Fifth St., Port Angeles.

The competition is open to the public.

Cost to compete is $100 per team of four; admission to watch the event is by donation. Funds raised go toward helping keep the William Shore Memorial Pool open.

Winter Links Open

The SkyRidge Golf Course (7015 Old Olympic Highway) host the Winter Links Open Feb. 7.

The tourney is open to four-person teams and features three different formats.
