‘Learn to Row Day’; Sequim High cross country sets first practice; 4-on-4 men’s basketball tourney on tap; Sequim horse trail challenge set for Saturday; Strider rider training at fair

‘Learn to Row Day’

The Sequim Bay Yacht Club and Olympic Peninsula Rowing Association invite adults and youths 12 years old and older to the “Learn to Row Day,” set for 8-11 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 23, on Sequim Bay near at John Wayne Marina, Sequim.

International coach Rodrigo Rodrigues, the association’s chief instructor, is overseeing the event.

Sequim High cross country sets first practice

The Sequim High School cross country squad hosts its first practice at 4:15 p.m. Monday, Aug. 24, at Robin Hill County Park. Meet at the lower parking lot off of Pinnell Road.

Athletes are asked to bring their appropriate tryout cards for coaches at that time.

4-on-4 men’s basketball tourney on tap

Cornerstone Baptist Temple hosts the second-annual Men’s Patriot Day Outdoor 4-on-4 Basketball Tournament in September. The tourney starts at 4 p.m. on Sept. 11 and at 9 a.m. on Sept. 12.

Registration is free. Call by Sept. 10 to register. Ages are 16 and older. Tourney winners receive a trophy.

Sequim horse trail challenge set for Saturday

Layton Hill Horse Camp, 2514 Chicken Coop Road, Sequim, hosts a trail obstacle challenge followed by a “Buckle BBQ and Awards Ceremony” at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, at the camp.

Strider rider training at fair

The Port Angeles BMX track hosts a “Free Strider Riding” event during the Clallam County Fair from 11 a.m.-5 pm. Aug. 20 and 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Aug. 21.

There also will be an official Warnicke Scholarship race on Aug. 20, with signups 5-6 p.m. and racing starting soon after.

One-day memberships are available for a $5 donation to the scholarship fund. It’s a $10 fee for current USABMX members, free to all spectators.

The BX track also hosts a Brother’s BMX camp, set for noon-3 p.m. Aug. 25-27; cost is $125 all three days or $50 per day. The camp is geared for all ages striders and bikes.

BMX is a year-round sport and memberships may be used at any USABMX facility.
