Umpires needed, State seeks comments on hunting seasons

Umpires needed

Western Peninsula Umpires Association will begin the spring sports season with the first meeting of the year at 11 a.m. Feb. 22 at First Presbyterian Church, 138 W. Eighth St., Port Angeles.

New rule books and case books are to be distributed and state tests reviewed.

Any Washington Officials Association umpires who have moved into the Clallam and Jefferson county area are welcome to join the organization that officiates high school girls fast pitch and boys baseball from Quilcene to Forks.

Association fees of $40 are required for each sport and umpires must be available to be at area schools by 3:30 p.m. weekday afternoons and on some Saturdays. For more information, call 457-6397 or e-mail Scooter@olypen.com.

State seeks comments on hunting seasons

Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife officials are seeking public input on proposed recommendations for the 2009-2011 hunting seasons.

Through Feb. 20, the department accepts written comments from the public to help finalize the proposed hunting rules and regulations, which are available for review at wdfw.wa.gov/wlm/game/seasonsetting.

Final commission action is scheduled for the April 3-4 meeting in Olympia.
