Golf group ready to
start spring season
The Lady Niners at The Cedars at Dungeness are inviting all lady golfers to join them in the group’s spring season opener March 6.
Play that day, as is each Thursday through October, begins with an 8:15 a.m. gathering and 9 a.m. tee time.

Stratton helps Vandals
set new swimming mark
Staci Stratton, a 2006 graduate of Sequim High School, helped the University of Idaho’s
women’s swim team break the school mark in the 400 free relay event at the Western Athletic Conference finals in San Antonio, Texas, Feb. 20-23.
Stratton, a freshman at Idaho, also competed in the 50 free, 100 free, 100 back and 200 free relay events, setting personal-bests in each swim.
After swimming a personal-best in the 100 free, Stratton, along with two other freshman and a senior, broke the 400 relay mark with a 3:29.80 finish. In the process, Stratton broke her own 100 free best she set minutes before.
The Vandals finished sixth among eight teams at the WAC finals. The team set five school records overall.
Church group to recycle
used soccer jerseys
The Sequim Community Church high school youth group is traveling to the Door of Faith Orphanage (www.dofo.org) during spring break, March 31-April 4, to work on building projects, and hope to take lots of gently used soccer jerseys from the
Sequim community to be "reused" by the children who live at the DOFO home.
Church sources say there are more than 100 children at Door of Faith and most love to play soccer.
To donate soccer jerseys, drop them off at any Sequim district school; there is a collection box in each office.

Group to help runners
prep for Sequim-P.A. marathon
The Port Angeles Marathon Association, in conjunction with Angeles Therapy, presents an informational panel discussion at 3 p.m., March 8 at Angeles Therapy, 1114 Georgiana St. in Port Angeles.
The seminar includes topics to help runners, walkers and teams prepare for the Sequim-to-Port Angeles North Olympic Discovery Marathon on June 8.
Topics include: training tips, how to organize a relay team, running a marathon over the age of 50, walking vs. running, staying healthy and preventing injury and building your mental edge.
Cost is $15. Buy tickets at Angeles Therapy Services in Sequim or Port Angeles, Port Book and News or Athlete’s Choice (both in Port Angeles), or Poulsbo Running.

Senior softball group
calling all area players
The Sequim senior softball group is asking any players interested in playing spring softball to join up with either the Sequim or Port Angeles teams.
Men must be at least 50 years of age and women 45 years of age.
Sequim players are asked to call Bill Ellis at 683-3926 or Jim Cole at 683-3524. Port Angeles-area players are asked to call Bill Klover at 452-7266 or the Port Angeles Senior Center at 417-4554.
Tour de Dung
race starts Sunday
The Tour de Dung bike race kicks off the 2008 series March 9 with a 12-mile event near the Dungeness Spit.
Another series race is scheduled for March 29.
Races begin at 10 a.m. at the Dungeness Recreation area, 554 Voice of America Blvd.

Road race registration
One week is left for the 2008 Athlete’s Choice Race Series three-race deal.
For $50, participants can gain entry into three Olympic Peninsula road races – the Lincoln Park 5k/10k (March 9), Robin Hill Run three-mile/10k (April 12), Sequim Run Off two-mile/10k (May 3) – or $20 for each race, or $25 for day-of-race registration.
Youths 5 years and younger can race for $5 each race.
Each race begins at 10 a.m.

SkyRidge course hosts
tourneys, jr. golf camp
Skyridge Golf Course (7015 Old Olympic Highway) has two tournaments in March: the Saint Paddy’s Day tourney March 15 and The Gut Buster tournament March 16.
Upcoming SkyRidge tournaments at the course include:
• April 21 – Spring NetFest, a four-person, best two-net balls event
• June 16 – Celebrate the course’s fourth anniversary with a two-person modified Chapman format tourney
• July 14 – Two-person teams partnered with another two-person team make a four-person scramble
• July 22 – The Clallam Links British Open
The course is also hosting its annual junior golf camp during spring break (March 31-April 2) for students of ages 6-15. The camp is from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. each day; snacks and drinks provided, as well as a camp t-shirt. Cost is $50 per student, and additional family members are $30 each.
