Deeney gets

second ace

Tom Deeney of Port Angeles sank a hole-in-one at The Cedars at Dungeness on Sept. 4.

Deeney used a 7 wood on the 145-yard fourth hole to get his second lifetime ace.

Sequim, P.A. ‘Powder Puff’ game tonight

Sequim and Port Angeles high school cheerleaders are challenging each other in a game of "powder puff" football at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9 at Civic Field in Port Angeles.

Entry fee is by donation; funds raised go to breast cancer research.

Jammers host

team tryouts

The Sequim Lady Jammers basketball squad hosts a tryout session for sixth- and seventh-grade girls from 10 a.m.-noon and 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12, at the Sequim Middle School gymnasium, 301 W. Hendrickson Road.

This Sequim youth basketball tournament team is comprised of select players who compete in basketball tournaments from November through March in Port Angeles. The team also travels to play a couple of tournaments out of the area against top teams from across the state.

The Jammers play against other seventh-grade teams and sometimes against

eighth-grade teams, depending on the tourney.

The team is made up of 10-12 players. Players must be able to commit to practices each Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Cost is $20-$25 per player per tournament and $125 for a uniform.

Members of Sequim High School’s bowling team are hosting a fundraiser carwash from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12, in the parking lot at Tarcisio’s Italian Place, 609 W. Washington St.

‘Muse’ ride goes

100 miles

The Port Angeles Fine Arts Center hosts "Pedaling the Muse," a 100-mile bicycle ride along the Olympic Peninsula backroads and trails on Sept. 12.

The ride begins at the Seattle Art Museum’s Olympic Sculpture Park on Elliot Bay and culminates at the fine arts center’s Webster Woods Art Park.

There is a 50-mile version of the bike ride that starts at Port Angeles’ Hollywood Beach, goes to Sequim Bay State Park and back again.

The path includes the 26.2 miles of the Olympic Discovery Trail that makes up the North Olympic Discovery Trail marathon course.

Entry fees are $85 for the 100-mile ride and $60 for the 50-mile ride.

Funds raised go to the Port Angeles Fine Arts Center.

Punt, pass, kick event comes to P.A.

The Port Angeles Recreation Division is hosting the 2009 NFL Punt, Pass & Kick Competition starting at noon Sunday, Sept. 13, at Civic Field in Port Angeles.

The Punt, Pass & Kick Competition is a football skills competition for boys and girls ages 8-15 (as of Dec. 31, 2009).

All equipment will be provided. No football shoes/cleats/turf shoes are allowed; only gym shoes (soft sole) will be permitted. There is no charge to participate.

Top male and female finishers in from each age group advance to the sectional competition. Participants should bring a copy of their birth certificate.

Park puts on

movie screening

Olympic National Park officials host "An Evening in the Olympics," an event showing an introduction to filmmaker Ken Burns’ new film series about America’s national parks, beginning at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, at the Port Angeles High School auditorium, 304 E. Park Ave.

The event also includes a performance by the Klallam Dance Group and a presentation by noted Sequim photographer Ross Hamilton.

SunLand hosts

Bridgestone equippers

Duffers wondering which golf ball to use are invited to SunLand Golf & Country Club for a special Bridgestone golf equipment event set for 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 18, at the course (109 Hilltop Drive, Sequim).

Bridgestone representatives are scheduled to be on hand, letting golfers hit different golf balls to determine which ball is the best fit.

Local yacht club

hosts Hospice race

Sequim Bay Yacht Club is sponsoring the annual Reach for Hospice sailboat race on Saturday, Sept. 19.

Over the past 16 years of the "Reach" campaign, race participants and contributors have raised $131,625 for Volunteer Hospice of Clallam County.

The race will be held in Sequim Bay and is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.

Non-racers are encouraged to bring a picnic and watch the race from the shore at John Wayne Marina.

Citizens group host

golf tourney fundraiser

The Citizens for Sequim Schools, a grassroots group that helps school levy proposals, is hosting the first of what organizers hope is an annual golf tournament.

The tourney is scheduled for an 8 a.m. start on Saturday, Sept. 26, at The Cedars at Dungeness, 1965 Woodcock Road.

Cost is $75 per person for the four-person scramble. The fee pays for lunch, tee prizes and golf carts. Players have a chance at winning an automobile.

The tourney also features a raffle for a golf cart; tickets are $10 each.

LaPush salmon

derby slated

The city of Forks, the Quileute Tribe and Forks Chamber of Commerce host the Last Chance Salmon Derby in LaPush Sept. 26-27.

The event pays cash prizes for largest coho and chinook (first-, second- and third-place fish take home cash) and a cash prize is offered for largest lingcod and largest bottom fish.

Drawings for prizes for ticket holders take place on the dock at the end of the event. For more information, call 360-374-5412.
