Larkins used a 7-iron to drive the 161-yard hole No. 17 at The Cedars.
Arnott sinks
sixth hole-in-one
Larry Arnott of Port Angeles sank a hole-in-one at The Cedars at Dungeness on June 14.
That makes six career aces for Arnott. He used a 6-iron to drive the 144-yard hole No. 4 at The Cedars.
‘Enhancement’ camp
comes to Sequim
An Athletic Enhancement Camp, open to students entering grades 5-12, began this week and runs Monday through Thursday until July 23.
The camp is held at the Sequim High School weight room at 601 N. Sequim Ave.
The schedule includes 8-9:30 a.m. in the weight room and 9:30-10:30 a.m. on the practice field for flag football.
Cost is $95 per participant.
The camp includes age-appropriate weight lifting and focuses on speed, power, agility, reaction and quickness for any sport.

Junior soccer opens
registration for fall season
Sequim Jr. Soccer officials are taking registrations for players in U-6 to U-15 age groups for the upcoming 2009 fall season.
The season begins Sept. 12 and runs through early November.
Registration is online only through July 19 at www.

Cost is $40 per player and a family cap of $110.
There is a $10 late fee after online registration ends.

Dodgeball tourney set for June 27
Port Angeles Recreation hosts Thunderballs II, a dodgeball tournament sponsored by Swain’s Team Sports on Saturday, June 27, at the Vern Burton Community Center, 321 E. Fifth St., Port Angeles.
Entry fee is $50 per six-person coed team.
Participants must be 18 or older. Tourney includes prizes for the winning team and best costumes.

Sequim doubles tennis tourney set
Peninsula Tennis Club is sponsoring the Sequim Doubles Tennis Tournament at the Sequim High School tennis courts on July 10-12.
Events include mens, womens and mixed doubles divisions at the combined skill levels of 6.0 to 9.0.

The Peninsula Tennis Club is a nonprofit community tennis association that promotes tennis activity in Clallam County and provides scholarships to graduating high-school tennis players.

Klahhane Gymnastics has openings in summer gymnastics classes for preschool girls ages 3-5 and beginner level girls ages 6-13.

Junior volleyball camp in P.A.
The Port Angeles Junior Volleyball morning camp, for incoming girls in grades six-nine, is scheduled for 9 a.m.-noon July 13-16 at the Port Angeles High School gymnasium, 304 E. Park Ave.
The camp is directed and coached by P.A. high school coach Christine Halberg. Other camp coaches will include Port Angeles High School coaches, Stevens Middle School coaches and Port Angeles High School players.
Registration fee is $50 per camper, which includes a camp T-shirt. In order to ensure a T-shirt, registration must be received by July 1.
Fundamental skills are the camp focus, including hitting, passing, serving and setting.
Participants are encouraged to wear appropriate clothing: T-shirt, shorts, socks, gym shoes (no black-soled shoes) and kneepads, and to bring a water bottle.
Registration fees will go toward the cost of the camp and to the P.A.H.S. volleyball program.

BMXers host vendors, ‘life’ race
The Port Angeles BMX track hosts a vendor day and Race For Life starting at 11 a.m. on July 18 at the Port Angeles track near the Clallam County Fairgrounds.
Event participants are encouraged to sell their used BMX bikes.
An A-Pro BMX clinic with Daniel Mazuti is scheduled for 11 a.m.-1 p.m.; cost is $25.
Sign-up for the Race For Life is scheduled for 3-4 p.m. Cost is a $10 donation and $10 race fee. The race is open to all riders.
A Strongman exhibition is slated for 1-3 p.m.

Coed softball league set
Port Angeles Parks and Recreation Department is registering teams now for the 2009 summer season that begins July 20.
Teams may register by picking up a registration packet at the P.A. Recreation office, 308 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.
Games are at Elks Playfield and Shane Park.
Players who would like to find a team on which to play can have their names placed on a "free agent" list by calling the office at 417-4557. Leave your name, address and phone number; the list is distributed to league coaches.
Horse camp comes to P.T.
The Jefferson County 4-H Horse Project hosts its annual Horse Camp from July 9-12 at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds in Port Townsend.
This is an open camp for youths and adults over the age of 8. The camp features a variety of classes, including fitting and showing, English and Western, dressage, jumping, trail, gaming and much more for beginners to advanced riders
Haul-in is 6 p.m. on July 8 for a mandatory orientation and schedule.
The camp is limited to 40 people on a first-come, first-served basis for paid registration.
Cost for four days of professional lessons is $125 per person and $100 per person for families with two or more youths attending. Dinner each evening is included in the price of the camp for both the participant and one chaperone and for an additional $15; sack lunches are provided.
Bathrooms and shower facilities are available and so are stalls and wash racks for all horses at no additional charge.
Enrollment forms are available at most feed and tack stores and at the Washington State University extension in Port Hadlock.

PC soccer camp set
The Peninsula College soccer fields at 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd. are the site of a soccer camp for youths 8-14 years of age from Aug. 3-7.
A camp set for Aug. 3-7 is also for youths 8-14 years of age. The camp meets 9 a.m.-3 p.m. each day. Cost is $99. Registration closes July 31. Sign up at www.portangelessoccer.com.
Girls teen soccer camp set for August
A soccer camp for girls ages 13-19 is scheduled for 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on Aug. 8 and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. on Aug. 9 at the Peninsula College soccer fields, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd., Port Angeles.
The camp focuses on conditioning, technical development and tactical decision-making skills. Participants are urged to bring cleats, shin guards, paper, pencil and lunch. Some time is spent in a classroom and the camp features a one-hour lunch break each day.
Cost is $85 per player. Andrew Chapman, Peninsula College’s men’s soccer head coach, organizes the camp.

NPBA golf tourney turns 10
The North Peninsula Building Association’s 10th-annual golf tournament is scheduled for a 9 a.m. start on Friday, Aug. 21.
The event is at Peninsula Golf Club, 824 S. Lindberg Road in Port Angeles.
Tourney format is a four-person scramble for men and women.
Cost is $90; fee includes cart (two people per), lunch, prizes and one drink ticket. Lunch only is $15 per person.
Registration begins at 7:30 a.m.
Tournament directors are seeking sponsors, with support levels starting at $200.

Boater cards promote safety
With the opening of boating season right around the corner, the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission reminds boaters about the boater education card requirement.
Washington boaters are required by a law passed in 2005 to take and pass a boater education course and have their education card with them when operating a vessel of 15 horsepower or more in Washington waterways. Boaters of ages 12-25 years are now required to carry the card when operating a boat. The card requirement for other age groups will be phased in through 2014. Boaters born before Jan. 1, 1955, are exempt from this law.
To meet the new education requirements, boaters can take approved courses in a classroom, online or at home. Once the course is passed, boaters pay $10 for the card, which is good for life.
