Henderson gets a hit, helps North earn split

Kelly Henderson, Peninsula College sophomore softball star, played in the annual Northwest Athletic Association of Community College fastpitch softball all-star games Sept. 28 at Delta Park in Portland, Ore. She played center field for the final two innings of the first game, helping her North Division teammates to a 5-4 win over the West.

In the second game, she belted an RBI double in the fourth inning in her only at bat and also made two putouts in left field, though her North team fell to the South all-stars, 6-4.

As a freshman, Henderson batted .316 and knocked in 16 runs in her first year of Pirate softball.

YMCA offers fall sports

The Clallam County YMCA, 302 S. Francis St., Port Angeles, offers sailing and dodgeball for youths and adults this fall.

Rick Porter instructs sailing classes for participants ages 10 and older. Sailing days are seven Saturdays during the fall: Oct. 11, 18, 25 and Nov. 8, 15 and 22. Registration is open until Oct. 11. Cost is $80 for YMCA members, $100 for nonmembers. Those younger than 12 need an adult guardian to be present for the first class.

Dodgeball is open to youths in fourth grade up to adults. Play is on Fridays through Oct. 24. Members play for free while nonmembers pay $3 at the door. Youths in grades four-five play from 3:30-5 p.m. while youths in grades six-eight play from 5:30-7 p.m. High school-aged players and adults play from 7:30-9 p.m.

Mixed doubles tennis tourney set for Oct. 19

The Peninsula Tennis Club wraps up the 2008 season with a one-day, mixed doubles tournament Oct. 19 at the Erickson Park courts in Port Angeles.

Tourney play is based on the combined level of the partners. Participants may enter at the team 6.0, 7.0, 7.5 or 8.0 level. Event committee chairwomen Laurel Cripe and Christy Brown reserve the right to place teams in the appropriate category.

Play is round-robin play among same-level between

9 a.m.-5 p.m.

Sequim batting cages adopts new fall hours

The Sequim Baseball U-18 batting and pitching facility has new hours until the fall prep seasons are complete. New hours are 3-6 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday. The organization is accepting new memberships.
