Holiday hoops in P.A.
The Port Angeles Recreation Department hosts the annual Holiday Hoops basketball tournament Dec. 13-14, with divisions for girls and boys teams in grades 5-8. There is a four-game guarantee. Cost to play is $225 per team.

SkyRidge hosts SHS, pre-Christmas tourneys
SkyRidge Golf Course, 7015 Old Olympic Highway, is the site of two special tournaments this holiday season.
On Friday, Nov. 28, SkyRidge hosts the Rick Kaps Scholarship four-person scramble. Entry is $220 per team, with only the first 20 registrations accepted. Entry fee includes T-shirt, gourmet meal and scholarship donation for Sequim High School scholarships. This tourney begins with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m.
SkyRidge’s pre-Christmas 27 tourney is set for an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start on Saturday, Dec. 6. The tourney format is two-person teams with three different, nine-hole competitions. Cost is $80 per team with food and prizes included. The first 28 teams to sign up are in.

Former P.C star helps Montana State to win
Dvaldo Mbunga, a 2006 graduate of Peninsula College and former Pirate men’s basketball player, led the Montana State Bobcats men’s basketball team to a nonconference win against the Colorado Buffaloes on Nov. 19.
Mbunga, the 6-foot 7-inch center, scored 13 points and had eight rebounds, two assists and three blocked shots in the 85-82 road victory.
Mbunga is in his senior year at the Bozeman University. He has been a constant in the starting rotation as a center and was considered for the newcomer of the year last season in the Big Sky Conference.
Mbunga and the Wildcats take on the Washington State Cougars Dec. 13 at Key Arena in Seattle.
Tennis club sets annual winter meeting
The Peninsula Tennis Club annual winter dinner meeting is slated for 6 p.m. Dec. 2 at the Peninsula Golf Club in Port Angeles.
All club members and those interested in either the club or tennis in general are invited.
The meeting features a silent raffle/auction, music by John Erskine and dinner – a basil chicken buffet for $25 per person.
Club members are scheduled to vote upon Most Improved Player awards. Nominations received for the awards are Gene Turner, Karl Fickas and Eric W. Brown among the men; Tricia Stratton, Monique Brasher, Wendy Drake and Brenda Landstrom for the women. Winners will be announced at the dinner.
Peninsula Tennis Club memberships are $20 annually, $30 for a family or $10 for students.
