Volleyball tourney

set for Oct. 10

The first Jimmy & Sooke Crabfest Volleyball Tournament is scheduled for Oct. 10 at the Port Angeles High School gymnasium, 304 E. Park Ave.

The event is a 6-on-6 coed tourney. Cost is $120 by Oct. 5 or $135 after Oct. 5.

Tourney profits help fund Port Angeles High School volleyball.

Eagles football

changes ownership

Changes abound for the Olympic Peninsula Eagles semi-pro football team.

Port Angeles’ Mike McMahan recently bought the club from J. Piper of Port Townsend. Piper plans to stay involved on the team as a player and coach. Kris Young is the team’s new director of operations as well as a player.

Team coaches are seeking a new defensive coordinator; those interested are urged to e-mail Young at krisjr young@yahoo.com.

The Eagles host a tryout and practice on Nov. 14 – location is to be announced at a later date.

Fan Appreciation Night at Speedway

Port Angeles Speedway hosts Fan Appreciation Night at the speedway track, 255678 Highway 101, on Saturday, Oct. 3.

Admission for all fans entering through the front gates is $5. Spectator gates open at 4 p.m.

Action on the Speedway starts with hot laps at 4 p.m. and with racing action starting at 6:30 p.m. The evening’s lineup of events includes stock cars, hobby stocks and hornets.

Boating class

set for October

The Point Wilson Lighthouse in Fort Worden State Park, Port Townsend, will be the setting for a boating course from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 3.

Completion of this course allows discounts on state boating insurance.

Cost of the class is $20; couples may receive a special rate.

Soccer challenge in P.A.

The Port Angeles Recreation Division hosts the 2009 Soccer Challenge Skills Competition beginning at noon on Sunday, Oct. 4, at Civic Field, 300 N. Race St., Port Angeles.

The event is a soccer skills competition for boys and girls ages 14 and younger. Skills tested are goal-shooting, timed dribbling, throw-ins, kick for distance and kick for accuracy.

There is no participation fee.

Top finishers in each age group advance to a state competition in Kent on Oct. 18.

Participants should bring a copy of their birth certificate for age verification.

P.A. hoops tourney set

The Port Angeles Recreation Department hosts the Youth Tipoff Tourney, with divisions for boys and girls basketball teams in fifth grade up through high school on Nov. 7-8.

The tourney includes a four-game guarantee.

Entry is $235 per team.
