Cross-country team car wash planned

The Sequim High School cross-country squad and supporters will hold a fundraising car wash from

9 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, July 30, in the parking lot at Tarcisio’s Italian Place, 609 W. Washington St.

Washes are by donation; proceeds support the athletes’ trip to compete in the Seaside Three-Course Challenge in September.

Mackay gets first ace

Scott Mackay of Sequim recorded his first hole-in-one Tuesday, July 12, at SkyRidge Golf Course. He used a 5-iron from 172 yards on hole No. 8. His ace came during a SkyRidge cup match with Allen Patton.

In somewhat of an oddity, the hole-in-one was only good enough to push the hole, as Patton, receiving a stroke, birdied the hole.

Patton, Jeff Pedersen and Mark Willis of Sequim witnessed the shot.

Local BMX riders rock Victoria

Port Angeles BMX riders took home top finishes at the Victoria National on July 9-10. 

Kortney Beutler brought home second- and third-place finishes, while Mariah Fortman raced hard in her third National with two third places. George Williams took two second-place finishes for the weekend and Zach Slota made his main event both days, holding onto fourth on both days.

JeffCo 4-H hosts horse show

The Jefferson County 4-H Horse Program hosts its annual Open Pre-Fair Horse Show on Saturday-Sunday, July 30-31, at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds, 4907 Landes St., in Port Townsend.

Performance classes start at 9 a.m. Saturday and Western Games start at

10 a.m. Sunday.

Classes are $5 each for performance classes and $4 each for gaming classes for entries postmarked by July 25, with an additional $1 fee per class for entries postmarked after July 25 or registered on the day of the show.

Wrestling camp returns to P.A.

The Olympic Mountain Wrestlers presents its ninth annual camp, “Olympians in the Olympic Mountains,” from July 25-28 at Port Angeles High School, 304 E. Park Ave.

The camp features U.S. Olympic Games competitor Bruce Baumgartner and Canadian Olympian Justin Abdou.

Cost is $125 per camper; fee includes daily lunch and camp T-shirt. (There are discounts of $10 each for groups of 5-10 or $25 for returning campers.) Sessions are 9 a.m.-noon and 1-3:30 p.m. daily.

Calling all golfing Crabs, Crabettes

The 38th-annual Crab & Crabette Mixed Chapman golf tournament is scheduled for Saturday-Sunday, Aug. 6-7, at The Cedars at Dungeness, 1965 Woodcock Road.

Entry fee is $150 per person. Fee includes three days of golf (two tournament days, plus complimentary practice round on Friday, Aug. 5), free range balls, tee prize, a hosted crab dinner and lunch.

Payout is $3,400 based on full field of 80 teams.

Format is 36-hole Chapman, with prizes for gross and net divisions. Number of divisions is based on number of entries.

Special events include putting contest, horse race, daily honey pots and daily team KPs.

The Sequim All-Schools Reunion hosts a golf tournament at SkyRidge Golf Course, 7015 Old Olympic Highway, on Saturday, Aug. 13.

The tourney is an 18-hole, two-person best ball format. Player limit is 100.
