Barry, Stofferan compete at Hot Spot competition
Alex Barry and Caitlin Stofferan, both of Sequim, competed at the Washington Recreation and Parks Association State Hot Spot basketball competition at Pierce College in Lakewood on March 21.
Barry finished second in the boys’ 13- to 14-year-olds division, scoring 88 points. Tyler Brenneman of Puyallup took top honors with 103 points and advances to a regional competition.
Stofferan placed fourth in the girls’ 11- to 12-year-olds division, scoring 62 points. Alyx Fast of Thurston County won that division with 81 points.
The Hot Spot competition consists of two, one-minute rounds of shooting from five "hot spots" worth two to five points each.
Barry and Stofferan qualified for the event at a Hot Spot competition in Port Angeles earlier this year.
Youth baseball camp set
The Sequim High School baseball team is putting on a youth baseball camp for boys and girls ages 8-14.
The camp starts at noon Sunday, April 11, at the high school baseball fields, 601 N. Sequim Ave.
Instruction includes hitting, fielding and pitching skills taught by members of the Sequim High School varsity baseball team. All participants receive a Sequim Wolves baseball hat and a snack.

SHS cross country team hosts car wash
The Sequim High School cross country team is seeking funds for their annual trek to Seaside, Ore.
The team is hosting a car wash from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, April 10, at the Red Wok Restaurant at Rock Plaza, adjacent to the roundabout on Sequim-Dungeness Way and Old Olympic Highway.

Next Level hoops washes cars for funds
The Next Level basketball club has two car washes set for this spring.
Both are in front of the Tarcisio Italian Place, 609 W. Washington St.
The car washes are slated for 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturdays, April 10 and May 15.
The club, one that supports middle and high school players who compete at tourneys year-round, is hoping to use car wash proceeds to pay for new uniforms, club officials said.
Free soccer coaching clinic set for April
Sequim Junior Soccer hosts a free soccer clinic for coaches from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, April 24, at the Sequim High School practice fields, 601 N. Sequim Ave.
The clinic features instruction about attacking and defending from technical, tactical and functional approaches. Coaches learn how to get the best out of players and gain new teaching ideas for all ages of players.

Eagles game to aid food bank
The Olympic Peninsula Eagles’ first home game, on Saturday, April 10, is also a canned food drive to support the Sequim Food Bank.
Attendees can get $3 off admittance with three cans of nonperishable food. Adult tickets, normally $8, would be $5 while students can lower their ticket price from $5 to $2.

Sequim, take on the Snohomish County Thunder at 5 p.m. at Sequim High School.
Sequim Wrestling Club open to all ages
The Sequim Wrestling Club, a new freestyle wrestling club, is open to wrestlers of nearly all ages, from peewees to adults.
The club meets from 3:15-5:15 p.m. each Tuesday and Thursday at the Sequim Community School gym, 220 W. Alder St.
Club wrestlers are able to compete at USA Wrestling-sanctioned freestyle wrestling tournaments nearly each weekend.
Coaches include Bill Schroepfer, assistant coach at Sequim High School; Rich Hay, Sequim Middle School coach; and Chris Goettling, middle school assistant coach.
So far this season, club wrestlers have taken to the mats at tournaments in Chehalis, Raymond, Sedro Woolley and Adna.
ONP, other parks waive fees for a week
Olympic National Park, along with the nation’s 391 other national parks, is waiving entrance fees for April 17-25, the park service’s annual celebration.
That announcement was made March 23 by Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar. Parks also will offer additional family friendly activities and special offers on tours, lodging, food and souvenirs.
Also scheduled are family friendly events on Saturday, April 24, for National Junior Ranger Day. Each child participating in Junior Ranger activities receives a certificate, patch or pin.
SARC hosts lifeguard training
The Sequim Aquatic Recreation Center is offering a lifeguard training class from May 4-25. The class meets from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturdays. The price for the class is $100 for passholders and $150 for nonpassholders.
