Bentz named PDN’s All-Peninsula MVP

Makayla Bentz, a 2014 Sequim High grad and star pitcher for SHS’s Wolves, was selected All-Peninsula MVP by the Peninsula Daily News.

Bentz was also voted Olympic League MVP by the league’s coaches.

Also earning spots on the All-Peninsula team were Sequim infielders Alexas Besand, Mary Lu Clift and Olivia Kirsch and outfielder/pitcher Melissa Lewis. Honorable mentions included Sequim’s Shelby Lott, McKenzie Bentz and Halie Wilson.

BMX sets track closures, added Aug. 8 race

The Port Angeles BMX Track will be closed during the River Valley BMX and McCullum Park BMX Track State Championship races (Aug. 3, Aug. 10).

The track also will be closed for the state final Aug. 24.

Port Angeles BMX has added a race on Friday, Aug. 8, to compensate for the closures.

P.A. BMX is planning on its standard Strider Promotion at the Clallam County Fairgrounds Aug. 14-15, with racing Aug. 16-17, to help promote Strider and BMX racing.

P.C. fly-fishing course set

Peninsula College offers “Fishing the Peninsula,” a course for community residents taught by local expert fisherman Ron Link.

The class meets Friday-Saturday, Aug. 8-9.

The Friday session is from 6-9 p.m. at Lincoln Center, 905 W. Ninth St., Port Angeles.

The Saturday class meets from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. and involves visiting actual fishing sites in favorite peninsula-area waters.

Cost for the course is $76.50. Students must provide their own Saturday transportation.
