St. Patrick’s 5k/10k racers raise funds for cancer care center

More than 220 runners and walkers turned out for some friendly local competition and raise funds for health care at the Red, Set, Go St. Patrick’s Day Run/Walk in Port Angeles on March 18.

Port Angeles runners Mike Higuera and Deborah Horstman took top individual 10K honors, with Higuera clocking in at 42:05 to win overall honors and Horstman winning the women’s division in 54 minutes.

Joseph Gallegos of Port Angeles placed second in the men’s 10K in 46:18, while Lucy Wait, also of Port Angeles, placed second in 1:04:39.

In the 5K race, Chris Fields of Port Angeles won in 19:41 with Brian Tucker of Carlsborg in second in 25:59. In the women’s division, Katrin Junghanns-Royack of Port Angeles placed first (and third overall) in 29:03, with Jessie Gilchrist of Port Angeles took second in 32:12.

Presented by Strait View Credit Union, the event is a benefit for Olympic Medical Center’s Heart Center. It featuring several runners sporting St. Patrick’s Day costumes.
