Despite rain that nixed their tournament, members of the Sunland Women’s Golf Association held their annual fall general meeting on Oct. 20 and reviewed what group officials said was a successful season.
The Drive for a Cure Tournament and Luncheon was held on Sept. 29 with 56 golfers and 68 luncheon attendees. Golfers included men and women from both Sunland and Dungeness. Thanks to donations from local business, groups and community members, $5,000 was given to Olympic Medical Center to provide mammograms for local women without insurance or the ability to pay.
Ringer winners — the lowest score shot on each hole over the period of time — included (gross) Bobbie Piety, Cynthia Edel and Nan Godfrey, and (net) Judy Nordyke, Christie Wilson and Nonie Dunphy.
Other awards included: Jan Prout for the most games of golf played at Sunland during the season (101), Hilda Duncan for most improved and Sherry Meythaler and Eileen Larsen for most birdies.
Sunland’s Lady Niners group voted to disband as a separate group and join SWGA’s 18-hole group.
Outgoing SWGA officers for the 2015-2016 season are Larsen, Cheryl Coulter, Geri O’Claray and Ruth Lowe.
The new officers for the 2016-2017 season are: Larsen, Wilson, Cecil Brown and Marsha Carr.
