Three Wolves wrestlers were given all-league honors last week.
Sophomores Kaylee Ditlefsen and Sophia Cornell were named by Olympic League coaches to the all-league first team and senior Luke Mooney to the second team behind four-time state champion Jake Velarde of North Kitsap, also one of the league’s four Most Valuable Players.
Ditlefsen and Mooney both competed at the 2A districts in Battleground (girls) and Bremerton (boys) to earn alternate spots for the MatClassic state tournament.
As a freshman, Ditlefsen (130) went to state last year, but this year she faced tough competition at districts, going 1-3.
Cornell, 106, took fifth at the early February subdistricts tournament in Port Angeles by pinning her opponent in the second round but losing in the next round.
Mooney goes out with one trip to the MatClassic in 2012, going 1-2, and nearly making it this year. He too faced tough competition at districts, going 2-2 to take fifth place.
As a team, the Wolves received the Sportsmanship Award for their good attitude at meets. Bremerton’s head coach Jeff Barton won Coach of the Year and League MVPs were all state champions in their weight classes — Bobby Reece of Kingston, Velarde, Adam Burchett of Klahowya and Sonya Redbird of Kingston.
