Sequim’s own TNT softball select squad came home with the second-place trophy in the 14U division at a USSSA tourney Sept. 12-13 in Kent.
"We were hoping to compete and hopefully win at least one game," coach Dave Bentz said. "It turned out all our hard work paid off."
On Saturday, the TNT squad opened with a 7-0 win against the Maple Valley Fugitives. Following a 9-2 loss to the Washington Speed, team TNT shut out the Federal Way Slam, 9-0.
On Sunday, TNT topped The Mosquito Squad 7-2 to give Sequim a rematch against the Washington Speed in the finals. TNT took an early 3-0 lead but eventually fell 10-5.
"We couldn’t have been more proud of these girls," Bentz said. "For a team that was put together at the end of July to get second place in a tournament playing against teams that have been together for years was awesome."
Coach Bentz said he’d like to see the team enter more tournaments in the future. That’s why team assistants have set up an account at Sound Community Bank under the name "T.N.T Fastpitch." All donations to this nonprofit organization are tax deductible.
Tryouts for the team are set for noon on
Sunday, Sept. 27, at the Sequim Little League fields, 136 W. Silberhorn Road. Potential players must have been born in 1995 or 1996.
