Track & Field: Wolves earn high marks in league dual meet

Sequim’s track squad set four-dozen personal bests in a tight competition that saw the Wolves’ girls team deadlocked with 3A Bainbridge and the SHS boys just four points behind the Spartans following an Olympic League dual meet on April 14 at Kingston.

Led by multiple event winners Riley Pyeatt and Anastasia Updike, Sequim’s girls tallied 69 points, tied with Bainbridge, with Kingston in third with 51 team points.

Bainbridge’s boys (79 points) edged Sequim (75) despite a number of strong finishes by the Wolves, including senior Adrian Brown’s sweep of the hurdles events.

On the girls’ side, Updike set a personal best in the 200 meters (29.02) followed closely by junior teammate Emily Carlier (2908) and freshman Katie Morris (29.52) to sweep the top three spots. Updike also won the 400 meters in a personal best 1:06.22.

SHS senior Henry Hughes powered his way to a big win in the 400, clocking in at 53.90 seconds to win the event by more than seven seconds; he also placed second in the 200.

Sequim sophomore Colby Ellefson set a pair of personal bests in the distance events, winning the 3,200 meters in 10:24.98 and placing second in the 1,600 (4:45.70), about a second behind Bainbridge’s Alexander Miller.

Skov, Hughes, Adrian Brown and Tyler Mooney combined to win the 4×400 in 3:41.98.
