Olympic High School’s Trojans were the real thing last week, edging Sequim’s Wolves 100-83 in an Olympic League showdown Jan. 8 in Sequim.

Olympic, a 3A school from Silverdale, scored wins in 10 of 12 events for the league victory.

"They had plenty of fast swimmers, but we were able to hold our own," Sequim coach Linda Bingler said.

Sequim’s Parker Steichen took first in the 100 breaststroke (1:18.13) while Ezra Perkins took first in diving with 121.15 points – the first time he’s won the event this season – followed by Stephan Stilts in second (117.9) and Kris Peterson (114.6).

Sequim (3-2) did manage to place second in seven events. Freshman Noe Calderon was second in both the 200 free (2:22.47) and 200 fly (1:17.05) while Thomas Moores was second in the 200 IM (2:40.58), a personal best by four seconds.

All three Sequim relays placed second.

Several Wolves earned personal best times, including Tanner Estep in the 200 free, Alex Skinner in the 50 and 100 free, Steven Moore in the 50 free, Duncan Skinner in the 100 fly, Triston Cortani in the 100 free and Joe Dapcevich in the 100 free.

Bingler praised newcomer Jared Lindorfer for his 500 free time of 8:19.34 in the 500 free.

"(That’s) an extremely fine swim since he was a novice in the beginning of the season," Bingler said. "The entire team swam really well especially considering they didn’t train over the holiday break."

Sequim was slated to host North Kitsap and Kingston in a double dual meet Jan. 13; a previously scheduled meet on Jan. 15 with Kingston was combined with the earlier meet against North Kitsap.

The Wolves host Port Angeles Jan. 22 and travel to Bremerton Jan. 27.
