Valley of the Trolls races postponed until Oct. 6

Though some of the smoke from British Columbia’s wildfires that once blanketed the Olympic Peninsula in recent days has cleared and air quality improved, Valley of the Trolls race organizers aren’t taking any chances.

With the theme “Trolls Gone Hawaiian,” the annual races — a half marathon, 10-kilometer and 5k — held at Bandy Farms and the Troll Haven grounds in Gardiner have been postponed to Saturday, Oct. 6.

“We had to call it early,” Jane Storm, who co-organizers the race with daughter Rebecca Krajewski, said early last week.

“It’s starting to clear out but there’s no guarantees how clear it’s going to be,” she said. “We just wanted to do that for the sake of our volunteers and our runners who come first, for their health and safety.”

The USATF-certified events sees runners and walkers traverse courses on a privately-owned estate occupying 150 acres along Discovery Bay at 950 Gardiner Beach Road.

With the catch phrase “Dust off your coconut bras and shake out your grass skirts, the Trolls have gone Hawaiian,” the annual races begin at 8 a.m.

Registration is $60 for the half-marathon run/walk; $45 for the 10K run/walk; and $40 for the 5K run/walk.
