Volleyball: Wolves sweep Bucs in league opener

Nearly perfect from the service line, the Wolves earned their first win in a 25-18, 25-23, 25-13 sweep of the Buccaneers in Kingston on Sept. 12.

“We served very, very well — 98-percent and we had 19 aces, so that was a big difference from our jamboree,” SHS coach Jennie Webber Heilman.

Brianna Palenik sparked Sequim with a six-point run in the first game.

“That got us going,” Webber Heilman said.

The Wolves trailed 20-14 in the second game, but Sequim rallied. Arianna Stovall had a five-point serving run to catch the Wolves up at 22-all, Webber Heilman said. Stovall then served twice to end it.

Rose Gibson and Kassi Montero each had six-point runs in the third set. Montero was 19-of-19 with four aces, four kills and five digs.

Gibson served 13-of-13 with three aces, four kills, five digs and a stuff block.

“Tiffany Lam led us in serve/receive, we were getting some great passes in, some balls that were wowing us on the sidelines,” Webber Heilman said. Lam had 10 digs.

Kenzie Berglund was 15-of-15 on serve with five aces, and added 21 assists and five digs.

Stovall finished 19-of-20 serving with five aces, eight kills, three stuff blocks and three digs.

Sequim was slated to play at North Mason on Sept. 17; results were not available at press time.
