The Olympic Mountaineers’ inaugural season is complete, following a 17-2 loss in the first round of the WHSBLA Division II playoffs to undefeated Wenatchee Valley on May 15.

The Mountaineers qualified for the tourney following an 8-5 record, second in the Olympic Conference division to Klahowya.

Olympic’s 13-1 win against Mount Si on May 8 gave the Mountaineers four wins in their final five contests, setting up the playoff game.

Wenatchee, hosting the game at Wenatchee Valley College in 80-degree weather, dominated play, getting scores from eight players. Scott Hershey led Wenatchee with four goals.

Wenatchee coaches said they were impressed with the level of sportsmanlike play from the Mountaineers, as they combined for just three-and-a-half penalty minutes.

The Olympic Mountaineers Lacrosse Club was formed as a club high school team after funding cuts prompted Port Angeles

school district officials to cut the P.A. lacrosse program in 2009.
