What makes playing teams like the 2010-2011 version of the Sequim High boys basketball squad so tough is predominantly the element of surprise.
As in, you never know who the difference-maker is going to be.
“The key all year for us is sharing the basketball,” Sequim coach Greg Glasser said. “We’ve had different guys step up.”
The Wolves gave Glasser his first win against the Bulldogs, a 56-48 victory on Friday night at home.
Corbin Webb scored 17 points and had five assists, Evan Hill sank a pair of key three-pointers in the second quarter and Kenny Meier hit key free throws down the stretch, finishing with 10 points.

“North Mason is a good team; they play real hard, real physical,” Glasser said. “That was good, for our team to have to battle a team like that. It’s the most physical team we’ve seen.”
The Wolves improved to 4-1 after an eight-point win against league rival North Mason and head into a rather exhausting week — four games in five days — with a three-game winning streak.
The win snaps Sequim’s seven-game losing streak to the Bulldogs.
“They did a great job of executing our offense,” Glasser said. “Guys are really starting to buy into (the system) and play as a team. We’re going to be tough.”
Glasser says several teams have separated themselves from the rest of the Olympic League pack, including Kingston, Port Angeles and his own Wolves.
Sequim was scheduled to host Bremerton on Dec. 13 and a travel team from Australia — results for this section were unavailable at press time.
Sequim is at Klahowya Dec. 15 and hosts the North Kitsap Vikings on Dec. 17.
Sequim plays at the Crush the Slush tourney in Port Townsend Dec. 29 and 30.
Home, sweet home
Bigger school? Big deal.
Sequim’s boys made quick work of the 3A Peninsula Seahawks on Dec. 8, getting four early baskets from Webb and three key 3-pointers from Nick Camporini in a 63-48 victory.
Camporini led the squad with a career-high 25 points, 18 of those coming from behind the three-point stripe.
Webb added 13 points while Gabe Carter chipped in with four points, eight rebounds and eight assists.
Sequim led 11-3 after one quarter and 33-16 by halftime.
Charlie Menkens, who with a pair of long-range scores led an unsuccessful Peninsula third quarter bid to close the point total disparity, paced the Seahawks with 16 points.
Camporini’s outburst was Sequim’s highest single-game point total since Dec. 30, 2008, when Ary Webb scored 28 points against Sumner.

Wolves rout Redskins
Sequim wasn’t about to let a good start get away from them.
The Wolves saw a seven-point first half lead evaporate, then blew out rival Port Townsend 54-39 on the Redskins’ home court on Dec. 7.
Carter and Webb combined for 37 points in the Sequim victory.
Sequim led 15-8 after a quarter, but Port Townsend held the Wolves to just two second-quarter points in tacking an 20-17 lead after two quarters.
The Wolves charged back with an 18-7 third quarter and shut down the Redskins’ leading scorer, Jacob Deberry, who led Port Townsend with nine points.
Carter finished with team’s highs in rebounds (13) and assists (four).
