Perfect so far – but with a big match looming.

Sequim’s Wolves added a pair of wins last week to bump their 2009 season mark to 10-0 heading into their May 5 match-up with rival Port Angeles.

The one-loss Roughriders figured to give Sequim their toughest test of the season before the postseason. Following the Olympic League tourney on May 8-9, Sequim’s girls play at the district tournament on May 15 and in a sub-regional tourney May 22, vying for berths in the class 2A state tourney.

Results of the May 5 match against Port Angeles were too late for this edition.

Sequim’s boys tennis team, who finished with a single blemish – to Port Angeles, no less – on their 2008-2009 regular season in the fall, start their postseason sojourn at districts on May 18. They advanced three singles players and three doubles teams to districts after an 11-1 campaign.

Sequim’s girls swept North Mason 7-0 on April 29, getting singles wins from Blaire Maloney, Kyla Hall and Stacy Hanson. Diana Earl and Angela Richards proved too tough for North Mason’s No. 1 doubles team of Hannah Paysee and Jessica Zeunick; the Sequim duo, now 5-0 as partners this season, won 6-1 and 6-0.

The Wolves also made quick work of Kingston on April 27, topping the Buccaneers 5-2. The Wolves posted wins in all four doubles matches without losing a set. Maloney and Hall whitewashed Kingston’s Andrea Fladgard and Therea Tucci 6-0 and 6-0 in No. 1 doubles play to improve to 4-0 in 2009.

Sequim’s Kari Hankins won in No. 2 singles play, 6-1 and 6-3 against Kingston’s Leigh Anne Bundang.
