Amara Gonzalez (girls tennis) and Josh Alcaraz (boys soccer) were named Wolves of the Week for the first week of May.
“Amara always gives 110% effort,” SHS tennis coach Mark Textor said of Gonzalez. “She never gives up, always competes, and gives our team a chance to win.”
SHS boys soccer coach Juan Carlos Cisneros-Lopez said Alcaraz is a great teammate and very coachable player.
“[Josh] demonstrates great sportsmanship and looks to develop his football ability with his strong work ethic,” Cisneros-Lopez said.
Brown, Vaara earn weekly honor
Andrew Brown (boys track and field) and Jolene Vaara (girls track and field) were named Wolves of the Week for the second week of May.
Vaara was named athlete of the meet for the Olympic League meet. She won the long jump with a 17-1 mark, just short of the school record she set earlier this season, and placed first in that event and the high jump.
She was also part of two first place relays (4×200, 4×400) at the league final.
Brown placed first in the 110 hurdles and high jump, and second in the 300 hurdles at the Olympic League Championship meet, noted head coach Brad Moore. Brown set a personal record in all three events.
Wolf of the Week is a partnership between Sequim High School and Castell Insurance to recognize local prep student-athletes and help raise funds for the SHS athletic department. For more information, contact James Castell at 360-683-9284 or see castellinsurance.com.
