The chase just got a little tougher.
Needing a win and the three points it brings to climb back into the playoff picture, Sequim’s boys soccer squad seemed to do all the things right in Port Townsend Saturday afternoon — except find the net one more time.
After a scoreless first half, Port Townsend and Sequim netted one second-half goal apiece for a 1-1 tie.
The single point keeps Sequim (3-3-1 in league, 4-3-2 overall) in third place in the Olympic League’s 2A division, five points behind the Redskins and 12 points behind Kingston.
“The tie didn’t put us out of it,”
Sequim coach Dave Brasher said, “but we pretty much have to win all of (the rest of) them.”
Ross Bringgold opened the scoring nine minutes into the second half with a score off a Daniel Berg assist, but Sequim’s John Textor got the Wolves even off Jeff Catton’s corner kick at 64 minutes.
Playing through windy, rainy and even snowy conditions, the Wolves out-shot the Redskins 14-4, but the visitors in purple-and-gold couldn’t break through for a winning score.
“We played real well,” Brasher said. “Their goalie had some outstanding saves. We had plenty of opportunities.”
Sequim was scheduled to play at North Mason April 22 and host Port Angeles April 26 in a make-up game from last week. Sequim hosts 2A division-leading Kingston April 29 and travels to Silverdale to take on league doormat Klahowya April 30.

That’s what Sequim coach Dave Brasher said following his squad’s 2-0 April 15 loss to Peninsula.
The Wolves got tripped up on their first game this season on the turf, and it happened early.
Seahawk Jesse Rohwer netted a goal at the 20-minute mark and teammate Matt London added another 10 minutes later for the only scoring, as Peninsula shut Sequim out.
“We kind of came out expecting to do as well against Olympic,” Brasher said, noting the Wolves’ big win against the Olympic League leaders on April 10. “They played well right off the bat … before we could settle in. We didn’t have much of an attack. We tried to use Kai (Antrim) too much. But we defended well the second half.”
An April 17 game against Port Angeles was canceled because some faulty wires to Sequim High School’s lights were inoperable and the teams couldn’t get referees to the field early enough, Brasher said.
