Sequim’s boys tennis squad will be busy this spring after seeing three doubles teams and three singles players qualify for the West Central District tourney after an impressive showing at the Olympic League tournament in Poulsbo Oct. 17-18.
Sequim is taking six of the 10 total seeds from the league to districts, outplaying competitors from North Mason, Klahowya, Kingston and Port Townsend-Chimacum.
Reed Gunstone and Mallory Maloney are league doubles champions. Teammates Robbie Blenk and Alex Lamb took fourth as a doubles tandem, while Greg Robinson and Michael Lee finished fifth. In singles, Ettore Scudo took second, Waylon Lam was fourth and David Richards was fifth. They advance to the district tourney, one that aligns with the end of the girls’ tennis season in May 2009.
"I felt like our kids showed themselves to be the class of the tournament," Sequim coach Mark Textor said. "Their sportsmanship and effort on the court were exemplary."
