The Wolves split for two tournaments last weekend with the girls in Everett and the junior varsity boys in Port Angeles.
Sequim’s girls took seventh at the Lady Wolfpack tournament hosted by Jackson High School with 94.5 points, two finalists and five medalists.
Kaylee Ditlefsen (140 pounds) and Alma Mendoza (125) both placed second in their brackets. Ditlefsen won with two pins and a 9-4 win over Bethany Davis of Yelm before being pinned by Olivia Adams of Blaine in 2:47 in the finals.
Mendoza also pinned two and took a 1-0 win over Brianna Galvan of Steilacoom before losing 9-3 to Erin Redford of White River.
Both Sophia Cornell (110) and Kiara Pierson (115) tied for third with Cornell pinning two and winning 6-3 over Ana Sanchez of Federal Way while Pierson also pinned two, and took two wins at 8-2 and at 11-2 over Sarah Kollar of Yelm for third.
The Wolves’ other finisher, Andrea Kienholtz at 155, tied for seventh with two pins.
This weekend, the girls compete at sub-districts on Feb. 7 at Decatur High School in Federal Way with finalists traveling to regionals in Yelm the following weekend.
Boys compete in sub-regionals Feb. 6-7 in Port Angeles with regionals the following weekend at Sedro Woolley High School.
The Mat Classic 2A State Finals are Feb. 20-21 in the Tacoma Dome.
While Sequim’s boy varsity wrestlers took a breather, the junior varsity team went to Port Angeles on Jan. 31 for the Olympic Mountain Wrestling Challenge.
Two boys, Bailey Hodgson (120) and Hayden Gresli (132) won two matches with Hodgson winning in a 10-0 major decision over Marcos Lopez and pinning Carson Jackson in 3:20, both of Port Angeles.
Gresli had two pins over David Treese of Port Angeles in 2:37 and Aubra Morris in 41 seconds of the Kitsap Ironman.
Four Wolves had one win with AJ Avila (138) pinning Angel Rivero Garcia of Port Angeles in 5:10, Aaron Andrews (145) pinning Michael Miles of Port Angeles in 1:32, Dylan Perreira (170) pinning Trenton Teter of Port Angeles in 1:52 and Nicholas Barrett (285) pinning Austin Adamire in 1:49.
