Sequim High sophomore Zoei Zbaraschuk finished in seventh place at the class 2A state girls golf tournament in Lynden May 21, shooting a second round 85 for a two-day total of 173.

She finished 18 shots behind 2A champ Claire Rachor of Bellingham.

Zbaraschuk, who finished 21st overall at the state tourney in 2007, was in a three-way tie for seventh place after shooting an 88 Tuesday morning at Lynden’s Homestead Golf Course.

She was the lone Wolf to advance to second day action. Sequim senior Phoebe Haglin shot a 106 on May 20 and missed the second day cut by four strokes, while teammate Kimberly Duce, a freshman, shot 130 in the first round.

Sehome won the girls’ team title, narrowly edging runner-up Burlington-Edison 106-104; Bellingham was third.

On the boys’ side, Sequim’s Colby Rude and Bryce Gange came as close to making the first round cut as one can but fell a shot short, each shooting rounds of 83 at Loomis Trail Golf Course in Blaine Tuesday.

Two-time defending state champ Gaston De La Torre led an understatedly strong Hockinson squad by winning his third 2A title with a tournament best score of 134 on Wednesday, shooting rounds of 68 and 66. Will Holdridge of Lynden finished second, seven shots back.

With four of the five top boys golfers, Hockinson easily won the team title, with Lynden second and South Whidbey third.

Port Townsend, led by Ronnie Harrell (19th place), finished eighth.
